Sangat was born out of the realisation that a network of gender activists and trainers was urgently needed in Bangladesh as the space for transformative gender work was in decline during the 90s. The word sangat refers to a gathering of community and/or like-minded people for a good and just cause. Since its founding, Sangat has focused on developing cross-border perspectives, programmes, and cooperation through a feminist lens. The network works for gender justice, equality, and peace regionally and globally.
